Impact and Outcome
The program differs significantly from that of other organizations in that instead of working to supply necessities for the present (food, clothing, medical care, etc.) GSSG takes a long-term view of how to assist Guatemalans in meeting their needs and bettering their lives. Success of the program is measured by the creation of a group of well-educated, altruistic leaders who dedicate themselves to working in Guatemala to improve the educational opportunities for all Guatemalans.
GSSG is growing and its impact can be seen in the villages and towns from which GSSG students have been recruited. The students share their new insights and knowledge with their communities.
One example is GSSG graduate, Byron Cap who is now serving the people of his village (Chialli) and nearby town of Tactic. He graduated in May 2017 with a degree in business administration. The knowledge that he acquired, thanks to your donations to GSSG, is currently being used to operate an English academy in his town with plans to expand to an elementary school. Byron also opened the first public lending library in Tactic. Books for the library were all supplied by GSSG supporters. He also founded a small company to buy coffee beans from local farmers at above market value, and process the beans for export to the USA. Byron epitomizes what GSSG is all about.
We will be reporting on many more significant projects in Guatemala as the GSSG students graduate from the universities and start putting their knowledge to work, one village at a time.
